OXON HILL, Md. — ICE Baltimore arrested a Honduras native in late November following a head-on crash in Prince George’s County that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
ICE agents took Kevin Alexis Mendez-Ortiz into custody Nov. 25, 2025, during a targeted operation in Oxon Hill. According to the agency, Mendez entered the U.S. unlawfully in 2022 and was later released after receiving a notice to appear in immigration court.
Authorities say Mendez was driving eastbound in Prince George’s County on Nov. 9 when he crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on, then fled the scene. The passenger in the car he hit suffered severe trauma, including multiple fractures, internal injuries, a collapsed lung and a concussion.

Prince George’s County police cited Mendez for more than a dozen violations, including driving without a license, failing to remain at the scene of an injury crash, unsafe lane changes, and failing to control speed.
“This tragic incident underscores why ICE remains steadfast in its mission to identify, apprehend and remove individuals who pose a threat to public safety,” said Jeremy Bacon, acting field office director of ICE Baltimore. He said the agency hopes for the victim’s recovery and will “continue working tirelessly” to safeguard communities.
Border Patrol previously apprehended Mendez on Sept. 30, 2022, after he crossed into the U.S. near Hidalgo, Texas, but released him pending immigration proceedings.
