FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Two months after a harrowing collision on Indian Head Highway, the community continues to rally behind Officer Daniel Rodriguez of the Prince George’s County Police Department as he recovers from life-altering injuries.
Rodriguez was struck in the early morning hours of April 18, 2025, while responding to a separate crash near Swan Creek Road. He had activated his emergency lights and was placing flares along the roadway when a suspected drunk driver crashed into his cruiser. The impact launched the vehicle into Rodriguez, slamming him into a guardrail.

He suffered a broken back, a fractured wrist and hand, and traumatic head injuries. Authorities later determined the driver’s blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit. The suspect was cited and released.
As Rodriguez faces a long and difficult recovery, fellow officers and local leaders are urging the public to help. A donation campaign led by the Fraternal Order of Prince George’s County Police, Lodge 89, has been launched to support his medical expenses and family needs.

“This is one of those moments when a guardian of the community needs the community to stand behind him,” said Anne Arundel County Sheriff Everett L. Sesker in a public appeal. “Officer Rodriguez and his family need our strength, support and prayers.”
