K-9 Convenience Stop: Atlas Alerts On Tiguan, Two Charged With CDS, Paraphernalia

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A traffic stop near a Chesapeake Beach convenience store led to drug and paraphernalia charges for a Huntingtown woman and an Owings man.

Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 29, 2025, Deputy J. Angell of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office stopped a white Volkswagen Tiguan after learning its registration was suspended as it left the Chesapeake Beach Fastop on Bayside Road, charging documents state.

The driver was identified as Shane Andrew Jennings, 38, and the passenger as Kristen Danielle Thomas, 39. Angell requested a K-9 unit after speaking with the pair, and K-9 Atlas alerted to the vehicle.

Deputies reported finding a bag on the front passenger seat with prescription pill bottles in Thomas’ name and an orange bag containing items commonly associated with smoking crack cocaine, including glass smoking devices and other items with suspected crack cocaine residue. A second bag on the back seat contained prescription bottles in Jennings’ name and additional items with suspected residue. All seized items were submitted to the Maryland State Police laboratory for analysis.

Thomas was arrested and taken to the Calvert County Detention Center. She is charged in Calvert District Court with possession of a controlled dangerous substance – not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on her own recognizance Nov. 30. Her trial is set for Jan. 28, 2026, in Calvert District Court.

Jennings is charged with one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance – not cannabis and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a criminal summons, and a preliminary inquiry is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
