LA PLATA, Md. — From smoky jerk ribs to creamy Cajun salmon, Ka’Ribbean Fire is known for bringing bold flavors to local tables. Now, the La Plata restaurant is adding a side of appreciation, treating Charles County teachers and school staff to a special Back-to-School Lunch Giveaway.
The contest will award lunch for two schools on their first day back on Aug. 25. To participate, educators must comment in the group Friends of Charles County post with their school name, position and school hours.
Winners will be announced on Friday, Aug. 15 — ready to enjoy favorites like the creamy Rasta Pasta as they celebrate the new school year. Just looking at Ka’Ribbean Fire’s full menu is enough to make any school staff member’s mouth water.

Owner Nik Ko said the giveaway is exclusively for school personnel and comes after a planned back-to-school drive fell through. “We had plans to do a back-to-school drive, and the person we were dealing with canceled it without our knowledge. We just want to give back to the community,” she said.
Ko attended Bladensburg High School in Prince George’s County. While she did not attend school in Charles County, she said she is committed to supporting the community she serves.

Located at 13 Shining Willow Way in La Plata, Ka’Ribbean Fire offers a menu packed with local favorites, from Cajun salmon with shrimp in creamy Parmesan sauce to ribs and chicken combos, jerk ribs, oxtail Rasta Pasta, fried whiting specials and Cajun shrimp mac and cheese. Large catering pans — such as jerk wings, curry chicken, seafood Rasta Pasta and peach cobbler — are also available for events.
