WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing felony theft charges after authorities allege he stole a high-value pickup truck and caused damage at a Charles County car dealership.
Chance Montgomery Clark, 24, of Waldorf, is charged with theft between $25,000 and $100,000 and malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more in connection with incidents that occurred in December 2025.
On December 8, 2025, deputies responded to National Motors Incorporated on Crain Highway in Waldorf for a reported theft. The owner of the dealership reported that Clark, a former sales representative who worked at the business approximately three years earlier, had been seen on the lot looking at vehicles. She indicated Clark had previously shown vehicles that were later stolen during his prior employment.
Clark allegedly viewed three vehicles that day — a 2021 Cadillac Escalade, a 2021 BMW M5 SUV, and a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer — with a combined approximate value of $158,500. Employees later discovered internal key fobs were loose in two of the vehicles and that the key fobs for the BMW and Escalade would not function. Management suspected the key fobs had been swapped.
The dealership’s general manager contacted Clark and requested he return to the business. Upon returning, Clark allegedly admitted he attempted to reprogram the key fobs with the intent to come back later and steal the vehicles. Employees attempted to block Clark’s vehicle to prevent him from leaving, but he reportedly jumped a curb and fled southbound on Crain Highway. The damaged key fobs were valued at approximately $1,000.
During continued investigation, deputies conducted surveillance and later located a blue Dodge TRX with a shattered rear passenger window at a park-and-ride lot. A records check revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Towson earlier that morning. The Dodge TRX was valued at approximately $80,000.
Investigators observed Clark exiting his Waldorf residence and entering the Dodge TRX parked on the street. He was seen unlocking the vehicle while the tail lights flashed and later driving to Pinefield Liquors in Waldorf before returning home.
An arrest warrant was issued on February 19, 2026. Clark was taken into custody on February 23, 2026. He was initially held without bond, and a bond review hearing was conducted on February 24, 2026, before Judge Dino E. Flores, Jr., where he remained held without bond.
A trial is scheduled for March 27, 2026, in Charles District Court.
