LAST WEEKEND, KINGโ€™S Grant residents awoke to some unsettling damage.ย  On Saturday and Sunday nights two local teenagers armed with flour and eggs laid waste to nearly 30 neighborhood cars.ย

โ€œOur residents are angry and hurt,โ€ Kingโ€™s Grant home ownersโ€™ association president, Lori Mead told The Bay Net.ย  โ€œNot only are the victims affected, but, in a neighborhood where everyone normally enjoys a sense of safety and security, peace of mind has been chipped away.

โ€œThis reminds us that no-one is exempt from crime. It reminds us that we must raise our children to be respectful of others and their property. It reminds us that we are part of a larger community. And, unfortunately, it reminds us that we must all be vigilant.โ€

On Sunday morning, Mead noticed a neighborโ€™s car coated with flour and egg.ย  The dew had mixed with it overnight and the result was a cement-like shell over most of the car.ย  On Monday morning, Mead counted nearly thirty cars covered with the hardened remains of several dozen thrown eggs.

Lieutenant Wayne Wathen of the La Plata Police Department told The Bay Net that on Saturday night, two county youths (ages 16 & 17) were caught throwing eggs at a moving car near Kingโ€™s Grant.ย  The driver of the vehicle followed the teens when they drove off in their van and stayed with them until police stopped them.ย

At that time, the policeย didnโ€™t know about the Kingโ€™s Grant vandalism.ย  Since the diver of the egged car declined to press chargesย the teens were identified and released with warnings.ย

Now, however, charges are pending for their destructive behavior at Kingโ€™s Grant.ย  Seven residents have filed complaints about damage to eleven vehicles.ย  Mead sent around a neighborhood email to solicit charges from the other residents who experienced damage but hadnโ€™t yet come forward.ย  La Plata Councilman Scot D. Lucas (Ward II) is assisting with the investigation.ย
