Kitchen Fire Displaces Family In St. Mary's County; Dog Rescued By Neighbor

CALIFORNIA, Md. — On June 10, 2025, a house fire broke out at a home on Oliver Court in St. Mary’s County, causing significant damage but no injuries.

Firefighters were dispatched around 6:45 p.m. to 45774 Oliver Court, where they found heavy smoke coming from a single-story, single-family residence. A neighbor, alerted by the sound of smoke alarms, discovered the fire and rescued a dog from the home. The occupants were not home at the time.

Twenty firefighters responded and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes. The fire originated in the kitchen and dining area and was ruled accidental.

Damage is estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to its contents. The home’s smoke alarms were present and activated. The family has been displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
