LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A kitten was freed from a storm drain Friday morning after firefighters responded to the intersection of Pacific Drive and Pegg Road.

At about 8:25 a.m. Aug. 22, 2025, crews from the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department arrived and lifted the drain cover to reach the trapped animal. Firefighters were able to coax the kitten out without injury.

St. Mary’s County Animal Control took custody of the cat and will oversee its care.

It was not immediately known whether the kitten belonged to a nearby resident or was a stray.
