CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A man on probation for threatening a state official was taken into custody and two other people were charged after Calvert County sheriff’s deputies serving a violation-of-probation warrant reported finding suspected cocaine and prescription pills inside a home in the 5100 block of Rosemary Drive on Nov. 21, 2025, according to court records.

Detectives with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit began watching the Rosemary Drive residence after being notified that a violation-of-probation warrant had been issued for Tyson Wayne Black, 37, of North Beach by Calvert County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Chandlee. Deputies said they saw Black step outside the home and confirmed his identity before moving in to serve the warrant.

When members of the Drug Enforcement Unit and the sheriff’s warrant unit went to the front door, they heard several voices inside. A man later identified as Robert Johnson Bowles, 35, of Chesapeake Beach, opened the door, and deputies entered the home.

Once inside, Bowles “bladed himself and took a fighting stance” toward deputies before being taken into custody, investigators wrote. A short time later, Black walked out of a bedroom with his hands raised, complied with commands and was arrested on the outstanding warrant.

Because multiple people were in the home, detectives conducted a safety sweep and reported seeing a white powdery substance they suspected to be cocaine in plain view on a bedroom dresser and inside a glass container. The residence was then secured while detectives sought a search-and-seizure warrant.

While deputies waited for that warrant, Bowles asked for a hoodie he said was hanging behind the door in a spare bedroom. Sgt. Bowlan retrieved the sweatshirt and saw a cut straw with white powder residue that detectives believed was consistent with cocaine use, the report states. Bowles acknowledged the hoodie was his, was placed under arrest and later taken to the Calvert County Detention Center.

According to online court records, Bowles is charged with one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance after a bail review on Nov. 22.

At about 9:16 p.m. on Nov. 21, detectives executed a search warrant for the Rosemary Drive home granted by Chandlee, the report states.

During the search, investigators said they found multiple items consistent with suspected cocaine use and distribution, including straws with white powder residue in the living room and a spare bedroom, a glass jar containing a white rock-like substance, a clear plastic bag with white residue, spoons and a bowl with suspected residue on the kitchen counter, and a digital scale with white residue. Deputies also reported seizing two Winchester .270-caliber rifle rounds in the living room and in a tackle box.

The homeowner, identified as Sherry Ann Horseman, 62, of Chesapeake Beach, was in the master bedroom when deputies arrived. The report notes that Horseman is physically handicapped and remained seated on her bed during the search.

In Horseman’s bedroom, detectives said they located several prescription pill bottles and loose pills they suspected to be controlled substances, including dextroamphetamine, alprazolam, buprenorphine/naloxone strips, phentermine and oxycodone in different strengths, along with what appeared to be an amphetamine/dextroamphetamine combination pill. Investigators also reported finding three glass smoking devices and a metal smoking device with burnt residue, eight cut straws with powdery residue, a black digital scale with suspected cocaine residue, and $103 in cash.

During an interview, Horseman told Bowlan she had “given” Bowles five alprazolam pills on Nov. 17, the day her prescription was filled, according to the report. Detectives wrote that the admission indicated she was providing her prescription medication to someone else.

Horseman was arrested and taken to the Calvert County Detention Center. Court records show she is charged with felony possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance following a Nov. 22 bail hearing and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. in Calvert District Court.

Black’s warrant stemmed from an earlier case in which he was accused of threatening a state official. Court records show Black entered an Alford plea in 2019 to a misdemeanor charge of threatening a state official with injury in connection with incidents that occurred between Aug. 14 and Aug. 28, 2018. He was sentenced to three years in jail, with all but one year and one day suspended, and placed on five years of supervised probation.

Judges have since issued multiple bench warrants in that case, including a Nov. 18, 2025, warrant for an alleged probation violation. Records show Chandlee ordered Black held without bond on that warrant.

All items seized from the Rosemary Drive home were turned over to the sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit to be packaged and sent to the Maryland State Police forensic laboratory for analysis, the report states.
