LA PLATA, Md. – A high-speed vehicle apprehension by a La Plata Police Department officer on March 3, 2024, resulted in the arrest of a Washington DC woman, who was later found to be under the influence and in possession of illicit substances and a concealed weapon.
The incident took place around 7:15 a.m., on Crain Highway northbound in the vicinity of Glen Albin Road. The officer, engaged in speed enforcement duties, clocked a vehicle entering the RADAR beam at a speed of 108 mph. The vehicle was intercepted on Crain Highway near Old Stagecoach Road.
Upon interviewing the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol from the vehicle. A standardized field sobriety test revealed that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle later uncovered a pair of brass knuckles and suspected “crack” cocaine.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Kalaya Monroe of Washington DC, was transported to the Charles County Detention Center for processing and charging.
Monroe received two charges and multiple traffic citations including Dangerous Weapon-conceal, CDS: possess-not cannabis, driving under the influence, reckless driving, negligent driving, and exceeding speed limits among others.
Monroe was released on recognizance on March 3, 2024. Her public defender appeared in court the following day, requesting a speedy trial. The trial has been scheduled for May 7, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., at the Charles County District Court.

“Her public defender appeared in court the following day, requesting a speedy trial”
‘It’ must always be in a hurry, 108 MPH and wants a “speedy” trial.
What about all the cops driving like fools?
“fools”?
What, were you there?
