INDIAN HEAD, Md. — An Indian Head man is facing multiple misdemeanor handgun charges after a traffic stop in Charles County led deputies to discover a loaded firearm inside a vehicle and on the driver’s person, according to court records.
Tyrell Leon Wallace, 22, was arrested early Dec. 22, 2025, following a traffic stop conducted by a Charles County sheriff’s deputy along King Street.
According to a statement of probable cause filed by Officer N. Crooks, the stop occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. when deputies observed a gray Infiniti sedan with a suspended registration. Wallace was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
During the encounter, the deputy noted Wallace appeared nervous and displayed an elevated respiratory rate. When asked whether there were any illegal items or weapons inside the vehicle, Wallace reportedly said there were not.
Deputies then asked Wallace for consent to search the vehicle. During that search, officers reported observing an object consistent with a handgun on the floorboard area of the vehicle. Wallace was removed from the car and placed under arrest.
Investigators identified the firearm as a Glock handgun equipped with a loaded magazine. Court records state the handgun was loaded and accessible both inside the vehicle and on Wallace’s person. Authorities further noted Wallace did not possess a permit to carry a concealed firearm.
In addition to the handgun, deputies reported recovering a quantity of U.S. currency and a small amount of suspected cannabis during the arrest. No additional charges related to the suspected cannabis were listed in court filings.
Wallace was charged with four misdemeanor counts: having a handgun in a vehicle, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, carrying a handgun on his person, and carrying a loaded handgun on his person. He was released the same day on his own recognizance, records show.
A trial is scheduled for Feb. 20, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
