
Bridgeport, CT — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs compiled three multi-run innings as they avoided a sweep with a 7-3 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish Sunday afternoon at Harbor Yard.
Gaby Hernandez (8-9) picked up the win for the Blue Crabs tossing six innings allowing three runs on seven hits. Tomo Ohka (6-12) was on the losing end yielding four earned runs in five innings of work.
Both teams came away with a run in the 1st inning. Mike Schwartz singled in a run for the Blue Crabs in the top half and Casper Wells countered with an RBI groundout to tie the game 1-1.
Trailing 2-1 in the 5th inning, Southern Maryland began to take over offensively. Cyle Hankerd regained the lead for the Crabs with a double that scored James Skelton and Jermaine Mitchell. Angel Chavez and Skelton added to the total in the 6th with an RBI single and sacrifice fly respectively to make it 5-2.
In the 8th inning, Jake Opitz drew a bases-loaded walk and Steve Moss added a sacrifice fly for the final runs of the contest to push the score to 7-3.
