TheBayNet Letter to the Editor

Thank you for your time and attention,

I’ve had a lot on my mind after seeing so many in our county and nationwide affected by drugs and alcohol. We’re witnessing many catastrophic events and fatal accidents, along with senseless shootings lately.

St. Mary’s County also has many successful families and people who want to see St. Mary’s grow into a healthy and prosperous town.

This is my county; I live here and I desire to assist in recovery centers. I want to see the county rebuild and the drug pushing to stop.

If you’re looking for assistance with substance abuse, the Beacon of Hope and its director Laura are located in Lexington Park. She has been fabulous over the years and is a woman of her word. If she says she’s going to be there for you, she will be.

I have been working at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Drill Hall since the summer of 1983 at the age of 16.

From setting up softball fields in his early days to now being a Recreation Center Aide, I have always felt a calling to assist others. I’ve had family members that have dealt with the bondage of addiction and it’s been hard to stand by and watch them battle through it, but it is possible with God’s help.

I’ve collected plastic bottle caps and have made different displays to raise funds and awareness for the Beacon of Hope. It’s time consuming but a labor of love. I really enjoy art and refurbishing collectible items. It’s never too late for a new beginning.

If you’d like to donate to the Beacon of Hope, you can reach out to Laura Webb.
