LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Charlotte Hall woman faces assault charges after authorities say she punched her husband during an early morning dispute over suspected communications with another male and unauthorized car use. Emma Ann Halsrud, 27, of Charlotte Hall, was reportedly intoxicated when she allegedly struck the victim in the torso during the Oct. 12, 2025, incident, according to court records.

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an apartment on Indian Way around 2:36 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2025, after the victim called to report his wife assaulted him. Court records show deputies contacted the victim outside the apartment and learned he arrived home about a half hour before calling police.

The victim and Halsrud became engaged in a verbal altercation in the kitchen and family room of their shared apartment, according to court filings. Documents reveal the victim was upset after he suspected Halsrud was talking to another male. Court papers state Halsrud was upset that the victim left with her car again.

Authorities allege Halsrud escalated the altercation to a physical assault by using one of her hands placed in a closed fist to strike the victim on his right side, approximately six inches above his beltline. Court records show deputies observed redness on the victim’s skin consistent in appearance with the reported assault.

Halsrud was reportedly intoxicated after consuming alcoholic beverages, according to court filings. Documents reveal the victim and Halsrud are married and reside together.

Authorities determined that, if not apprehended, there was a high probability of further violence due to Halsrud’s level of intoxication. Deputies placed Halsrud under arrest and charged her at St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. Records show deputies confirmed Halsrud’s identity via her Maryland driver’s license photo.

Halsrud faces one count of second-degree assault, a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a $2,500 fine, if convicted.

Halsrud posted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond and was released following her initial appearance on Oct. 12, 2025. Court records indicate the initial appearance was conducted remotely, with the State’s Attorney participating via telecommunication. Private attorney Kathryn Bosse Batey entered an appearance on Oct. 15, 2025. Defense counsel filed a motion for discovery and inspection on the same date.

A trial is scheduled for Nov. 25, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s County District Court. All proceedings will take place in St. Mary’s County District Court in Leonardtown. The State’s Attorney’s Office for St. Mary’s County is prosecuting the assault charge.
