Shirley Ann Carpenter

Shirley Ann Carpenter, 71 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on February 4, 2022 at home.

She was born on December 2, 1950 in Maryland to the late George Tucker and Gladys (Soper) Tucker.

Shirley moved from Hyattsville, MD to Mechanicsville where she resided for the last 34 years. She graduated from Suitland Senior High School . She was employed as an Administrative Assistant for Walter Reed Hospital. She married her loving husband, Robert Wayne Carpenter on May 31, 1970 in Rockville, Maryland. They spent 48 wonderful years together and would look forward to an evening of dinner and dancing occasionally before his passing in August of 2018. They were blessed to raise three children who were loved and supported unconditionally. Shirley had a special love for animals, especially horses and her pet dogs- Bella, a Miniature Schnauzer and Daisy, an English Springer Spaniel. She loved the outdoors, spending time with family, and listening to Rock โ€˜nโ€™ Roll music. She enjoyed traveling and often visited family and friends in Florida, New Hampshire, and Lebanon, Maine. While traveling she enjoyed spending time at the family camp on the lake, boating, and never missed the opportunity to relax in front of a bonfire. She followed her favorite local band, The Hubcaps who are well known throughout Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and the D.C. region. She loved gathering together for a good Whiskey Sour or Coca-Cola and eating Alaskan King Crab legs.

She is survived by her children, Tracy Alan Carpenter (Michelle) of Valley Lee, MD, Curtis Wayne Carpenter of Mechanicsville, MD and Sheryl Renee Carpenter (Kurt) of Denver, CO; her sister, Gladys Rebecca Doremus (James) of Camp Springs, MD; two grandchildren, Samantha Ivy Lyon Carpenter, of Leonardtown, MD and Megan Cundiff of Great Mills, MD; four great grandchildren, Aaralynne Jerome, Aaden Jerome, Amir Neale, and Anan Neale. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, and her granddaughter, Christina Maier.

Private services and interment will be held on February 21, 2022.

  1. I am very sorry for your loss. Cheryl. Loosing a parent is very very hard. Mike was happy to attend the memorial service, he said your mom was always very nice to him.
