LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – “This victory is proof that organizing gets the goods!”
That’s part of a Facebook post by the Southern Maryland Democratic Socialists of America after Segall Group Commercial Real Estate quietly updated a listing.
The original plan once considered redeveloping Lord Calvert Mobile Homes and displacing residents, but it seems that’s off the table now.

Lord Calvert residents showed up at several town meetings to share their concerns about the plan. They say, that while this is a victory, the war is far from over.
“Cherry Cove is raising rents, neglecting maintenance, and sending out intimidating surveys. They want to redevelop one way or another,” says the Facebook post.
Cherry Cove is the developer who discussed turning the site into housing back in 2012.
“We will stand by residents of Lord Calvert for every battle to come,” says the Facebook post.
The Southern Maryland Democratic Socialists of America are urging anyone who wants to join the movement to fight for the Calvert Mobile Homes community to send them a message.

No thanks, this is the problem. Cherry Cove’s property value is tremendously low due to having mobile homes on their property. No store will want to invest in that site nor will anyone want to open any pad sites up. Like a lot of other Counties in MD they are phasing mobile home parks out because they effect the property value. It should definitely be turned into something more modern. I know two families that lived back there and when the talk of renovating came up years ago they looked for other areas and moved out. They definitely gave plenty of notice. I think it still needs to happen. Sad for any families there, however hopefully they have first say in the newly developed housing they put back there.
Thank you for your input Brian Norris.
Bulldoze that crap!! The trailer park is an eyesore and needs to be demolished!!
It’s so nice of you to volunteer to house 150 families who have to be displaced because you think some trailers are ugly.
We don’t need any more housing developments, restaurants or shopping centers in The Lexington Park/California area. What we need is housing that is affordable for those that live on social security or disability.
Section 8 housing is no longer open for new applicants, so low-income people can’t rely on that now. Where are the poor supposed to live? We can’t just live in the clouds. I applaud Segall, Inc. for deciding not to make families homeless by helping to turn Lord Calvert Mobile Home Park into yet another housing development for rich people. Cherry Cove doesn’t care about the tenants, only themselves and money, so a company that cares about the tenants needs to purchases Lord Calvert Mobile Home Park and make it affordable for low-income people.
Bulldoze it.
Only if they start with your house
The hard thing is that the mobile home parks are the closest thing St Mary’s has to “affordable housing”. Rents in apartment buildings are sky-high and out of some people’s reach. When they tore down the mobile home park where Walmart is now most of those people had nowhere to go because of price… and that was like 30 years ago. I don’t know what the real solution is other than cheaper housing somewhere… but nobody wants the problems that come with it. The count bough the apartment complex on Church Drive in Great Mills a few years ago and made it all Section 8. More problems in the neighborhood after that.
Really need is these people to get off their butts and find work than just relying on social security and disability. Food stamps ect. It’s sad. Everyone under 65 years of age should be working some kind of hours at some place of business no excuses. COVID really killed all kinds of work style and prosperity. Especially in some! Kids don’t even wanna work!
Most of the people in that park have jobs. I know because I bothered to talk to them instead of regurgitating what somebody told me I should think about people who live in trailers.
I can’t help but notice everyone posting about how badly they want to see 150 families evicted because the trailer park is ugly, or because they hate the people who live there, are posting here where they can be anonymous. They’re too chickensh** to comment on Facebook where we can see what kind of person you really are.
