New to Southern Maryland is the first installation of a revolutionary way to grow hair โ€“ Laser Light Hair Therapy. Hair it is Salon and Spa proprietor, Polly Gatewood decided to purchase the hair therapy system after talking to many people who wanted a way to grow hair without the daily chore of Rogaine and other topical application-type hair growth treatments.

In a recent interview, the system was discussed in detail with Gatewood and her Laser specialist, Wanda DiGennaro. The first thing anyone who wishes to try to grow new hair is to get screened by DiGennaro to see if they are capable of growing hair.

โ€œMany people are surprised to find that, even after being bald or losing hair for years, the system will work for them,โ€ said DiGennaro. โ€œWe use a computer to analyze the scalp and then do some macro electronic imaging to make sure that there are viable hair follicles capable of growing new hair.โ€

The analysis begins with some electronic pictures of a persons head. Then DiGennaro uses a computer-aided lens to capture images around the scalp in the area about the size of a pencil point. The images are immediately available on the computer for DiGennaro to analyze.

โ€œSee these small black dots, those are viable hair follicles,โ€ she said pointing to a few images. She went on to explain that the longer follicles have not been producing hair, the more they deteriorate. โ€œThe follicles that wonโ€™t work are the ones that are spread out or that look like spider webs,โ€ DiGennaro pointed out in one image.

When asked about the treatment Gatewood stated that in order for the system to do its job, treatment patients need to dedicate one hour per week for a full year. โ€œThey can break that up into two half hour sessions or even four 15 minute sessions. The laser treatments are cumulative,โ€ said Gatewood.

The system also works to repair damaged skin. In addition to stimulating blood flow to follicles, the low level, cold laser helps smooth wrinkles, lines and folds in the skin. Works to eliminate or reduce age spots and sun damage.

DiGennaro explained that the blood flow which works on the hair follicles also works to rejuvenate the skin. โ€œThe system is very safe because it is a cold laser without heat.โ€

During the interview, one hair patient, Amy McLean who has been receiving treatments since June and is about half way into the hair treatment talked about her experience. โ€œI noticed that I was losing a lot of hair about a year ago. After six months, there is lot of new hair now,โ€ she beamed.

McLean stated that the people at Hair it is are great and the laser treatment hour is a time when she can catch up on her reading and very relaxing. Now that her hair is growing fuller and thicker, she I enjoying herself more as well.
