PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Lusby man has been indicted in connection with a drug investigation stemming from a January narcotics transaction observed in the parking lot of the Applebee’s on Solomons Island Road.
According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), detectives witnessed a suspected drug transaction take place on Jan. 10 at the Applebee’s located at 555 N. Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick. During the stop, law enforcement recovered Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills and U.S. currency. Two men were arrested at the scene: Anthony Arthur Perez, 31, of Prince Frederick, and Delano O’Brien Gray Jr., 40, of Lusby.
Gray was charged on scene with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of a CDS not cannabis. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center following his arrest.
On March 18, a grand jury returned a six-count criminal indictment against Gray in Calvert County Circuit Court. The charges include maintaining a common nuisance for narcotics distribution, conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, two felony distribution counts related to separate transactions, and felony possession with intent to distribute. He also faces a misdemeanor count of CDS possession involving alprazolam, filed as a subsequent offense.
The indictment references conduct occurring between Jan. 8 and Jan. 10 and alleges that Gray used a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu to facilitate narcotics distribution. Two named recipients—Mitchell McKinney and Anthony Perez—were listed in the charging documents as individuals to whom Gray allegedly distributed oxycodone.
Gray was formally arraigned on April 7 before Judge Mark W. Carmean. His next hearing, a pretrial conference, is scheduled for May 9 before Judge Mark S. Chandlee, who is also assigned to preside over the jury trial set to begin Aug. 5.
Gray is represented by defense attorney Jonathan Yusef Newton. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Allison Catherine Walton of the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office.
All charges remain allegations, and Gray is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
