NORTH BEACH, Md. — A North Beach couple is facing multiple felony drug charges following a multi-agency narcotics investigation that authorities say uncovered a shipment of methamphetamine sent through the mail to a residence in Calvert County.

Tyson Wayne Black, 37, and Julia Lynn Bennett, 31, both of North Beach, were arrested on March 3, 2026, after investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on 11th Street as part of an ongoing drug distribution investigation.

According to charging documents, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit, Special Operations Team, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Maryland State Police participated in the investigation and search operation.

Investigators reported that during the winter of 2026, a confidential informant told authorities they could purchase methamphetamine from Black and Bennett. The information prompted detectives to begin a narcotics investigation into the pair.

During the week of Feb. 23, investigators learned that a package suspected of containing narcotics was being shipped from Arizona to the North Beach residence. The parcel was addressed to “Julie Bennett,” according to investigators.

Postal inspectors intercepted the package and confirmed it contained approximately 60 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Authorities removed a portion of the substance for testing and repackaged the parcel with about 30 grams of methamphetamine along with a sham sample before preparing it for a controlled delivery.

At approximately 11:25 a.m. on March 3, a postal inspector delivered the package and left it on the front porch of the residence. Investigators conducting surveillance reported that Bennett retrieved the package and brought it inside the home.

Shortly afterward, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the residence.

Authorities located Black and Bennett outside the home in a black Hyundai Kona with New Jersey registration. Both were taken into custody without incident.

During questioning, investigators reported that Black acknowledged purchasing the methamphetamine from Arizona and arranging to have it shipped across state lines to their North Beach residence. According to investigators, Black indicated that he and Bennett intended to distribute the narcotics in Calvert County.

Both suspects were transported to the Calvert County Detention Center following their arrests.

Black was charged with importing a controlled dangerous substance into the state, conspiracy to import a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a narcotic, and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.

Bennett faces charges including possession with intent to distribute a narcotic, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, importing a controlled dangerous substance into the state, conspiracy to import a controlled dangerous substance, and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis.

Black was ordered held without bond following a bail review hearing on March 4, 2026 before Judge Robyn Riddle in Calvert District Court.

Bennett was initially released on her own recognizance after a bail review hearing on March 4, 2026. A second bond review hearing on March 5, 2026 resulted in Bennett being ordered held without bond.

A hearing is set for April 3, 2026 in Calvert District Court.
