On December 18, at 2:10 a.m., TFC J. R. Stern initiated a traffic stop on Patuxent Beach Road south of Oak Road in California, on a white Acura for exceeding the posted speed limit.
Upon contact with the operator, Gregory Orvis Vannatta, 28 of California, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. Vannatta was subsequently arrested for DUI. A routine MVA check revealed that his driving privilege in Maryland is suspended. A search incident to the arrest revealed Vannatta was also in possession of a glass CDS smoking device containing burnt Marijuana.
Vannatta was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner
