LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Maryland State Police trooper was injured in a crash that prompted a hazardous materials response Wednesday afternoon in Lexington Park.

The incident was reported at approximately 12:04 p.m. on April 1, 2026, in the area of Hermanville Road and Piper Court.

Crews arrived to find a crash involving a truck with a trailer, where a 500-gallon diesel fuel tank had ruptured and was leaking into a ditch along Hermanville Road. The situation prompted an upgrade to a hazmat response as crews worked to contain the spill.

Officials said there was no entrapment. The only reported patient was the Maryland State Police trooper, who was evaluated at the scene and transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with injuries.

The diesel tank was later secured as firefighters and hazmat crews worked to contain the spill and prevent further environmental impact.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

  1. Two full lanes, wide shoulders, straight road, dry/ sunny/ clear weather…too bad we’ll likely never know any causal details of this accident.
