ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for St. Mary’s County and surrounding areas, effective until 10:00 PM tonight, Saturday, July 19, 2025.

The advisory, released late afternoon, includes much of Southern Maryland and multiple counties throughout Central, Northern, and Northwestern Virginia. According to the alert, storms developing in the region may produce damaging winds, hail, and lightning.

Locally, the watch includes the cities of Lexington Park and California, MD, with storm conditions expected to escalate throughout the early evening hours. Residents are urged to remain indoors if possible and monitor conditions via local weather sources or emergency alerts.

In Virginia, the watch area spans Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Greene, King George, Orange, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Stafford, and Madison counties.

This includes the cities of Culpeper, Crozet, Dahlgren, Falmouth, Fredericksburg, Gordonsville, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania Courthouse, and Stanardsville.
