MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Joseph Charles Mindick, 34, of Mechanicsville, is facing two separate assault charges, one of which was captured on surveillance footage. The charges stem from a domestic dispute and an altercation at a local business.
According to law enforcement reports, the first alleged assault occurred on Sept. 27, 2025, on Budscreeks Road in Mechanicsville. Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute call. Authorities reported that an argument between Mindick and the victim over parental discipline escalated. Mindick allegedly picked up the victim and carried her to the living room, where he pushed her into the room. When she tried to check on the juvenile children in the home, Mindick reportedly grabbed her by both arms to stop her.
The victim sustained minor bruising and lacerations to both forearms. Deputies observed injuries consistent with the victim’s account. Mindick allegedly admitted to moving the victim but denied causing harm, stating he only wanted to separate himself from the situation.
The second alleged assault occurred on July 16, 2025, at Hills Auto Repair Shop. Maryland State Police responded to a report of a customer assaulting an employee. The victim reported that Mindick had returned to the shop with an issue regarding his vehicle. After being told the estimated amount for his vehicle repair, Mindick reportedly became agitated, raised his fists, and, when the victim declined to step outside, struck the victim on the left side of the forehead with a closed fist. Police observed injuries consistent with the victim’s account, and the incident was captured on the shop’s surveillance cameras.
Under Maryland law, second-degree assault carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500 per offense.
After a failure to appear in court for the July incident, a bench warrant was issued on Nov. 24, 2025. Mindick is scheduled for an initial appearance for the September incident on Dec. 22, 2025, in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.
