MECHANICSVILLE, Md. โ One person was trapped Sunday afternoon when their vehicle flipped onto its side on Yowaiski Mill Road, prompting an emergency helicopter response and extrication operation. The smoking vehicle required a specialized squad to free the trapped occupant.
The Mechanicsville vehicle rollover occurred around 12:20 p.m. on September 28, 2025, at 26845 Yowaiski Mill Road near the intersection of Tin Top School Road and Dillon Court. According to dispatch, the vehicle flipped completely over and came to rest on its side directly in front of a witness who called for help. Additionally, the overturned vehicle was smoking, adding urgency to the rescue operation.
Emergency crews found one person trapped inside the smoking vehicle, requiring immediate extrication efforts. Furthermore, multiple St. Mary’s County emergency units responded and established incident command, while coordinating to complete the rescue operation.
The severity of the entrapment prompted Chief 2A to request helicopter transport around 12:25 p.m. Meanwhile, MedStar 3 helicopter responded with an 18-minute estimated arrival time to transport the trapped victim. Emergency crews worked systematically to free the occupant from the overturned smoking vehicle.
Extrication operations were completed successfully around 12:36 p.m., freeing the trapped driver from the damaged vehicle as fire unit leaders established a helicopter landing zone at County Lakes Park to facilitate patient transport.
The condition of the trapped driver has not been officially released by hospital authorities. The cause of the vehicle rollover on Yowaiski Mill Road remains under investigation.
