Meet Calvert County Board Of Education Candidate Jeanette Flaim
Credit: Jeanette Flaim

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. – Jeanette Flaim has been a resident of Calvert County for over 35 years, living in Chesapeake Beach. Her two children attended Calvert County Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. She says the fantastic education they received is something she wants to continue to push for students to have an excellent education regardless of background socioeconomic status, or ability.

โ€œMy children received a first-rate education and I want every student to have that experience. They had many wonderful teachers and would constantly tell me about new things they learned. On the occasions I would stop by the school you could see how much the teachers enjoyed being in the classes and that joy was returned by their students. I hope that every student gets to experience the joy of learning in the classroom and that it sparks an interest in the material being taught.โ€

She says she wants to continue to support and promote the work that the Board of Education has done so far and the future that Blueprint has shown.

โ€œI would like to be a part of promoting all the Blueprint goals including enabling students to achieve college and career readiness by the end of 10th grade and broadening resources to ensure all students are successful.โ€

As far as teaching goes, Flaim believes it should be regarded as a high-status career and fully supports incentivizing teachers to pursue professional development.

โ€œIn collaboration with the other elected board members I will advocate for equitable education; promote innovative teaching methods and technology; continue to review the policies to address the mental health challenges facing students and foster supportive policies; champion diversity and inclusion throughout the district and work to improve school infrastructure, ensuring adequate resources and address any disparities in school funding.โ€

She also wants to strengthen the relationships between the schools, students, teachers, support staff, parents, community members, and our elected officials so we are all working together for the benefit of our students.

  1. I would like to hear how you stand on the BOE position of not opening the tennis courts in Chesapeake Beach? They have been closed since the beginning of construction on the new school and have been neglected since that time. The BOE keeps other courts in great shape but uses a weak excuse of safety concerns to keep the courts closed. In my opinion, every BOE candidate guilty of stonewalling should be dumped.
