Michaels Prince Frederick Hours

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — After much anticipation, the retail chain Michaels opened its doors in Armory Square of Prince Frederick last week.

The store is located at 409 Solomons Island Road and is one of the keystone large businesses in the shopping center. It’s open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

Michaels is the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailer with more than 1,300 locations. It’s the only Michaels in Calvert County, and since the closing of Joann Fabrics, it is currently the sole major retailer of its kind in the county. Before this store opened, there were Michaels locations in all the surrounding counties, but still a 30-minute drive or more for Calvert residents.

Michaels sells arts and crafts supplies and home decor — and basically anything else you’ll need for home or DIY projects, including baking supplies, seasonal decor, fabric, sewing supplies, cake-decorating kits and more. The store is appealing to so many because you can find a variety of supplies for every purpose and for every taste. It’s your one-stop shop for all the projects you have in mind, and for finding inspiration for the ones you haven’t thought of yet.

Keeping with the seasonal trends, the Prince Frederick Michaels is currently all decked out for fall and Halloween. Spooky is very much the vibe of fall, and the Michaels merchandising department knows it. As soon as you walk in you’ll find all the fall decor you need, from hot pink ghosts to classic skeletons.

Calvert resident Andrea Taylor is a crafter who dropped by Michaels during their soft opening. She said she appreciated the diverse inventory and loved all the choices and products. But it was the friendly staff that set the tone for the new store and made her experience so positive.

“I’ll be a regular at that store, I know it already,” Taylor said, adding that it was a great addition to the area for the crafting community.

Hopefully Michaels can fill the void for all our local craft lovers, jewelry designers and DIY makers — and inspire creativity for anyone who has yet to discover what they can do.

  1. I read that Michael’s would carry some of JoAnn’s sewing supplies & fabric but nothing in the new Prince Frederick store. Disappointing!

  2. Fox Run is halfa empty now. They close JoAnnes and open Michael’s. They open ALDI when there’s a Giant, Weis, Nick’s, and Safeway within walking distance. How many more carry-out sandwich shops do we need? I’m surprised they didn’t open ANOTHER pizza shop. How many do we have already? I’m also angry they closed Armory Road, as it’s the route I take to go to the bank, Giant, and Golden Chicken without going onto Rt. 4. Cawlvert Canty is turning into Waldorf. Oh, yes — did I leave out the 8 traffic lights between the hospital and Co. 2, a distance of about 1 mile?
