STEVENSVILLE, Md. — Michelle Sullivan has joined the Chesapeake Charities team as part of the community foundation’s commitment to increasing resources available to the residents of Southern Maryland.
Sullivan, a longtime consultant with the Nonprofit Institute of Southern Maryland, brings more than a decade of experience working with regional nonprofits and understanding the area’s greatest needs. In her new role, she will serve as a key liaison, connecting residents and organizations with Chesapeake Charities’ services and funding opportunities.
“As the staff became acquainted with fundholders and the needs of the region, it became clear we needed to bring someone on board who lived in Southern Maryland,” said Linda Kohler, executive director. “Michelle was the perfect person for the job, as her work with the Nonprofit Institute gives her a wealth of knowledge about nonprofits in the region and an understanding of the area’s unmet needs.”
Sullivan looks forward to working with local leaders and organizations to strengthen philanthropy in Southern Maryland.
“I look forward to playing a collaborative role with the Southern Maryland stakeholders to facilitate philanthropy, with my understanding of the challenges facing the nonprofits and the people they serve,” she said.
Since its founding, Chesapeake Charities has worked in partnership with donors and advisors to invest more than $28 million in education, health and human services, community development, the arts, animal welfare, and the environment. This funding has resulted in thousands of grants for outstanding projects throughout the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond.
The foundation also manages the financial, legal, and administrative aspects of nonprofit operations, allowing organizations to focus on their missions.
Like all community foundations, Chesapeake Charities is overseen by a volunteer board of local leaders and managed by professionals with expertise in nonprofit management.
In 2020, Chesapeake Charities assumed responsibility for the operations of the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland.
