At 11 a.m. Jan 20, Charles County volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a house fire 13770 at Ballantrae Lane in the Canterbury Estates neighborhood for a reported bedroom fire.
The Canterbury Estates neighborhood contains huge million-dollar homes in a rural setting, which caused problems for responding fire companies due to no municipal water system available for firefighting.
The fire fully engulfed the second floor of the two and a half story residence. Firefighters worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading, although some fire did reach the first floor. Numerous departments arrived to provide tanker trucks for water, including units from Charles and Prince George’s Counties.
There were no injuries. The fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall.
Crews were on the scene for three hours. Responding fire departments included Waldorf, LaPlata, Hughesville, Baden, Brandywine, Clinton and Bel Alton.
