COBB ISLAND, Md. — A 75-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease who was reported missing late Monday was found dead Tuesday morning in the Potomac River near Neale Sound, just off Cobb Island.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 9 a.m., July 29, 2025, after a caller reported discovering a body in the water near the shoreline behind homes facing the river. The woman had last been seen around 9 p.m. last night. According to a 911 call, her caregiver advised this morning, the woman could not be tracked or contacted, and the home’s doors had been left open overnight.
Units from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, fire and rescue teams, and marine support responded to the scene. The body was quickly confirmed to be that of the missing woman. Her identity has not yet been publicly released.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland Natural Resources Police were notified but did not respond to the incident. The cause of death remains under investigation.
