Leonardtown,MD— On Feb.11, St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Officeย Deputy R. Roszell responded to Dry Creek Lane in Leonardtown for a welfare check.
A delivery driver came in contact with a young pajama-clad child while delivering oil at the child’s residence. The driver suggested the child go inside the house because of the cold temperatures. The driver attempted to make contact with the homeowner, later identified as Misty M. Meads, 35, of Leonardtown. The driver asked the boy to go in and get his mother. The driver stated, “the boy went into the house and returned without the defendant (his mother) and stated she was asleep,” according to charging documents.ย
After several attempts, the driver made contact with the childโs mother who had been sleeping in the bedroom. Deputy Roszell observed what appeared to be bottles of liquor and wine scattered throughout the house.
According to charging documents, “Throughout the house were dirty dishes, food and cigarette butts scattered on the floor. I (Roszell) asked why the defendant was sleeping so late in the day, and she advised she was up late last night shopping to get stuff for a trip to Atlanta, GA.”ย
Child Protective Services was contacted, and Meads was placed under arrest. She was transported to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center. Meads was charged withย neglect of a minor.
Meads at this time does not have a scheduled court date. She faces a maximum jail sentence of five years and/or a maximum fine of $5,000.ย
