Bowie, MD – Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, the operator of a 2015 Kawasaki 636 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 50 west of Church Road when he struck a GMC pickup truck traveling in the HOV lane on westbound Route 50 west of Church Road. The motorcycle operator was ejected upon impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the GMC pickup truck was transported to Prince George’s Hospital with what are reported to be minor injuries. At this time, there is no indication alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.
The deceased motorcycle operator is not being identified at this time because his family has not yet been located to be notified of his death. He is an adult male from Virginia. Maryland State Police are working with Virginia authorities to make notification to his family.
The Maryland State Police College Park Barrack collision re-constructionist conducted the detailed crash reconstruction. State Highway Administration personnel assisted with lane closures and detours around the scene. Westbound Route 50 was closed for about two hours while the investigation was conducted.
The investigation is being conducted by Tfc. Moreno and Cpl. Ellington.
