Colton’s Pt., MD — With school opening just days away it was a time for the kids to have some fun before cracking the books. St. Clements Museum in Coltonโ€™s Point held its annual Childrenโ€™s Day Saturday, Aug. 15 with cooperative weather and plenty of activities to keep kids of all ages busy.

The highlight of the day for many was also a history lesson โ€“ free boat rides to St. Clements Island, site of Marylandโ€™s founding. They could also learn a lot about the stateโ€™s history inside the museum, which also had free admission for the day. Mixing history and fun is always a great way to learn.

Activities included free balloons (inside the old schoolhouse), face painting, games, crafts, snow cones and goody bags. The children had a chance to try their hand at the limbo and Zumba led by Leslie Corbin. There also were mini-tractor pulls for various age groups.

The Seventh District Optimist Club provided a 50-cent meal and a free bike raffle. And there were displays by the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department and MedStar St. Maryโ€™s Hospital.ย

St. Clementโ€™s Island Museum is operated by the Museum Division of the St. Maryโ€™s County Department of Recreation and Parks.ย  For more information call 301-769-2222 or go to www.stmarysmd.com/recreate/museum
