Robin Brown (center), team lead for the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Obsolescence Management Center of Excellence, Industrial and Logistics Maintenance Planning and Sustainment Department, Maintenance & Supply Integration Division (AIR 6.7.2.5), and the NAVAIR Obsolescence Management Team (N-OMT) earned the 2015 Department of Defense Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) team award for their robust management of DMSMS issues. In fiscal year 2015, the team performed research on 1,895 DMSMS cases for a cost avoidance of $661 million.
Patuxent River, MD — The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Obsolescence Management Team (N-OMT) recently received a 2015 Department of Defense DMSMS team award.
The team was recognized for their innovative approach and outstanding contributions in standing up a centralized core team for NAVAIR Program Offices. N-OMT standardized and improved processes that led to better obsolescence management, increased effectiveness, reduced cost, and increased readiness throughout naval aviation. During fiscal year 2015, the N-OMT performed research on 1,895 DMSMS cases for a cost avoidance of $661 million.
The N-OMT is a “one-stop shop” for NAVAIR program offices to find the processes, experts, tools, and solutions that can reduce or eliminate cost and schedule impacts stemming from DMSMS problems in both domestic and international problems.
The awards — five team awards and one individual award — are presented by the Defense Standardization Program Office and the Department of Defense DMSMS working group to recognize individuals and organizations of military departments and defense agencies who have made significant accomplishments through robust DMSMS management.
The winners will be recognized at the annual DMSMS Conference in early December in Phoenix, Arizona.
