NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — A fresh wave of excitement is coming to the waterfront as Freedom Ring Boats prepares to launch its brand-new boat rental service at National Harbor. This Black-owned business is set to offer locals and tourists an unforgettable way to explore the Potomac River, all while embracing the spirit of freedom and adventure.

Upon delivery to National Harbor after being stored at Fort Washington Marina for the winter, Freedom Ring Boats will offer a variety of rental options. The fleet features four vessels—Freedom, Liberty, Justice, and Independence—each accommodating up to 10 passengers, allowing for a total of 40 guests on the water at any given time. Renters take full control as captains of their own experience, with no special licenses required.

All rentals operate on a 2.5-hour window, beginning with a 30-minute instruction session covering basic navigation and best safety practices, followed by two hours of personal boating time. Standard operations run Friday through Sunday and holidays, with additional bookings available by appointment.

Seasonal hours:

  • April: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • May – August: 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • September: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • October: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The last rental closes at sunset, with the final “Golden Hour” ride offering breathtaking views as the sun dips below the horizon.

“We wanted to create an experience that allows people to connect with the water in a meaningful way,” said Kenneth Kearney, owner of Freedom Ring Boats. “Boating has long been a symbol of freedom, and we’re excited to make it more accessible to the community and families while celebrating our heritage and history.”

National Harbor has become a premier destination for entertainment, shopping, and dining, and the addition of Freedom Ring Boats adds another dynamic layer to the area’s appeal. With a strong emphasis on safety, fun, and cultural appreciation, the company aims to attract both first-time boaters and seasoned navigators alike.

Beyond rentals, Freedom Ring Boats is partnering with Black-owned wine company V-NO @ The Harbor to provide premium refreshments, including picnic boards with wine and cheese. Guests are also welcome to bring their own alcohol aboard (though the driver must remain sober). Each boat is equipped with Bluetooth speakers, phone chargers, a sunshade umbrella, a table, and an integrated ice bucket for added convenience.

The rental pricing starts at $250 per hour for up to 10 people per boat, with the option to rent out the entire fleet for larger gatherings. Special deals are available, and guests are encouraged to personalize their boats for celebrations—within reason.

As excitement builds for the official launch, Freedom Ring Boats invites the community to stay tuned for special promotions and events. Bookings open April 1, and interested guests can visit FreedomRingBoats.com or call 240-273-1824 to secure their spot on the water.

With its unique blend of adventure, history, and accessibility, Freedom Ring Boats is poised to become a must-visit attraction at National Harbor. As the company’s motto proudly states: “Make Memories That Float.”
