CROWNSVILLE, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Fire Department has officially placed its new Crownsville Fire Station 6 into service, marking a major transition in emergency response coverage for the area.

Announced in March 2026, the new 22,316-square-foot facility is located at the corner of Sunrise Beach Road and Generals Highway. It replaces the former Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department on Hall Road, which has officially closed, ending decades of service in the community.

The new station is designed to improve emergency response capabilities while supporting firefighter safety and long-term operations.

Crownsville Fire Station 6 will house multiple units, including Engine 6, Tanker 6, Medic Unit 6, Special Unit 6, along with a Safety Officer, Shift Commander, and Fire Investigators. The facility also includes space for the department’s Medical Ambulance Bus, used during mass-casualty incidents, and an additional ambulance that can be staffed by volunteers.

Its more central location within the community is expected to improve response times and overall service delivery.

The station also incorporates features aimed at improving firefighter health and safety, including on-site gear washers and dedicated decontamination areas designed to reduce long-term exposure to harmful contaminants.

Officials described the new station as a long-term investment in public safety that will serve the Crownsville area for decades to come.
