New Taco Bell will be next to the Auto Zone store in Charlotte Hall.
Charlotte Hall, MD — The northern part of St. Maryโs County is getting another fast-food option. The St. Maryโs County Planning Commission at its Sept. 14 meeting unanimously approved a new Taco Bell for the strip commercial development that sits between Route 5 and Triangle Drive in front of the Food Lion and True Value Hardware store in Charlotte Hall.
The development is owned by Charlotte Hall, LLC. The Taco Bell will fill the last remaining spot in the development that now has two other fast-food restaurants (Wendyโs and Popeyeโs), as well as a Rite-Aid Drug Store, Auto Zone auto parts store and a bank.
At the public hearing on the proposed concept site plan, the sole speaker was local insurance agent Duke May, who lent his support for the project. โI am very adamant that we move forward with development in the northern end of the county,โ he said. May has been in business there for 30 years.
Charlotte Hall LLC principal, developer John Parlett, did not attend the hearing because of the death of โPeachโ Burch, wife of his partner Sonny Burch.
Planning Commission Chairman Howard Thompson noted that Parlett had done a good job developing the project and conforming the buildingsโ architecture to the wishes of the commission.
The new Taco Bell will sit between the bank and the auto parts store. Access will only be from Triangle Drive, as is the case with the rest of the commercial strip’s buildings.
Then Department of Land Use and Growth Management will administratively approve the final site plan once all other agency approvals are in hand.
