Two new plays by R. da Silva have been performed several times so far for armed forces personnel at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The plays are performed by the Full Measure Players. Their signature work is called โ€œLove Among the Oysters.โ€ ย They are looking for other venues at which to perform the plays.ย

โ€œLove Among the Oystersโ€ is a family-friendly light romantic comedy that would be an ideal fundraiser, perhaps as a dinner-theater event. ย he play is set in a Southern Maryland marina on the Potomac River. The marina owner, Mary Louse Kane, wants to sell the property and retire to Florida after a long life of serving the local watermen. The watermen fear that a new owner will not treat them as kindly as Mrs. Kane and conspire to prevent the saleโ€”every time a potential owner shows up they concoct outlandish tales of monsters and failed septic systems to scare them away. Deceptions and trickery lead to a deeper understanding of โ€œwhat is in oneโ€™s heart.โ€

โ€œLove Among the Oystersโ€ lasts 40 minutes without intermission and is preceded by a twenty minute short play, โ€œFor Cabbage and King,โ€ a pun-filled farce set in a medieval hovel. The Full Measure Players have been hired on two occasions to perform these works for armed services personnel aboard the Patuxent River Naval Air Station

Hereโ€™s some sample dialogue from โ€œLove Among the Oystersโ€

Old waterman Sturgil Wilson tells young Thomas Young about his oystering days:

WILSON:

Heron Island oysters are among the best, I swear,

and I’ve taken many a good bushel there.
