NEWBURG, Md. — Though Pop Pop’s Greenhouse is officially closed for the season, the team behind the beloved Newburg nursery is still finding ways to give back. For the month of November, the family has transformed its Honor Produce Stand into a community food exchange, open to everyone—not just customers.
Located at 13340 Rock Point Road, the self-serve stand is available 24/7 for anyone to drop off or pick up food. Clear storage bins help protect donations from weather and wildlife, and signs on the cart remind visitors: “Take what you need. Give what you can.”
“This is not a Pop Pop’s Greenhouse thing, this is a community thing,” organizers wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post. “We are inviting all who wish to be a part of this to reach out.”
Pop Pop’s Greenhouse hopes this temporary project helps bridge the gap for families in Charles County during a time of rising need—and proves once again the power of community.
The stand welcomes non-perishable food donations with most-needed items including:
- Juice pouches or packaged drinks
- Canned tuna and chicken
- Bread, bagels, peanut butter, jelly
- Granola bars, snacks for kids
- Pasta, rice, pancake mix, and syrup
For those unable to shop in person, donations can be made digitally:
- Zelle: 443-624-0164
- Apple Pay: 443-624-0164
- Venmo: See this Facebook post for the QR code at the bottom.
A community board is also set up at the stand so people can leave notes about what’s needed, or what they’re able to contribute. The stand is designed to operate with dignity and privacy—no one will know if you’re dropping off or picking up.
“We can’t stand the thought of a child missing a meal, or even a snack,” the post reads. “You have to give people the opportunity to do the right thing.”
