CALIFORNIA, Md. — A vehicle fire shut down part of a busy intersection in California on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, sending smoke high above the roadway before firefighters brought it under control.

The fire started about 4:25 p.m. at Three Notch Road (Route 235) and First Colony Way, burning through the front of a white sedan. Flames and thick black smoke were visible from nearby shopping centers as drivers slowed and deputies blocked lanes.

Bay District Volunteer firefighters arrived quickly and knocked down the fire while sheriff’s deputies directed traffic around the scene. The sedan was heavily damaged, but no injuries were reported.

Traffic delays eased once the vehicle was secured and removed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
