It’s just too good to be true! “Frankie Valli” (Chad from Lights Out) serenades an audience member at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa’s July 12 Rock the Dock show.
Chesapeake Beach, MD – One of the mainstays of 1960s pop music continues to get its props from talented impersonators. For Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the act known as Lights Out is a delightful genuine forgery. The Four Seasons tribute act is fronted by four college friends from the University of Delaware—Chad, Rob, Daniel and Chris. The troupe entertained the crowd attending the Wednesday evening, July 12 presentation of Rock the Dock at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa.
While much of the group’s repertoire consists of the hits of the Four Seasons and songs from Valli’s solo career, Lights Out also performed an extensive medley chronicling the history of Rock ‘N’ Roll that included songs by Bill Haley and the Comets, Chuck Berry, the Beatles and the Eagles. The group’s rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” had the audience waving hands Fenway Park-style.
In addition to their on-stage banter, the performers also moved about an extended stage to interact with fans. Chad, in the guise of Frankie Valli, sauntered into the audience while singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” Valli’s smash solo from 1966. He serenaded several women and even danced with a former county commissioner.
Lights Out’s appearance in Chesapeake Beach—to date their lone booking this summer in Maryland–came about only recently. “I saw them in Florida,” said Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa entertainment director Murphy Smilardo, who was able to book the group for what turned out to be one of the hotter nights in July. Another recent insertion into the 2017 Rock the Dock lineup—The Spinners—are scheduled for Saturday evening, July 15.
For Lights Out, the coast-to-coast travel resumes. The group performs at a variety of venues, including Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and also at several Italian heritage festivals. They will be playing in Rehoboth Beach, DE Aug. 13, according to their web site.
