Fire Truck Skids Off Road in Rainy Conditions, No Injuries Reported
North Beach VFD Engine 11

NORTH BEACH, Md. — On August 4, 2024, at approximately 4:58 p.m., the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department’s Tower 1 and Engine 11 were dispatched to an emergency call in the area.

As Engine 11 navigated a curve at East Harmony Road and Valley View Court amidst light rain, the rear wheels lost traction on a slick spot, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and strike a utility pole on the officer’s side.

Fire Truck Skids Off Road in Rainy Conditions, No Injuries Reported

Remarkably, no injuries were reported among the crew. This outcome is attributed to all members being properly seat-belted and the driver’s adept handling, which prevented a head-on collision with the pole.

The engine sustained significant body damage but remained drivable. Following department policy, the driver was relieved of driving duties and subjected to a drug test. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and North Beach VFD safety officers are conducting an investigation into the incident. Engine 12 was promptly placed into service to ensure continued operational readiness.
