ROCKVILLE, Md. — A Montgomery County high school was placed on lockdown Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, after a person was shot inside the building, though authorities said the incident was contained and no ongoing threat remained.

Montgomery County police responded to Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville shortly after 2 p.m. following reports of gunfire on campus.

Police said both the suspect and the victim are students at the school. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, where the student was listed in stable condition.

A suspect was located near the school shortly after the shooting and taken into custody, authorities said. After a sweep of the building and surrounding area, police confirmed the scene was secure and that there was no further danger to students or staff.

Students and staff remained inside classrooms during the lockdown while officers investigated. School officials advised parents not to come directly to the campus as dismissal and reunification plans were coordinated.

Thomas S. Wootton High School serves about 1,911 students in grades 9–12, according to the latest enrollment data.

The investigation is ongoing, and police said additional information would be released as it becomes available.

  1. Crime & Courts ?
Shouldn’t this article be under “Education”?
Because no crime will be charged and no court appearances for a well indoctrinated minor.
