
LA PLATA, Md. — Two school buses collided while leaving Mary H. Matula Elementary School on Friday afternoon, prompting a mass-casualty response as 79 students were checked by emergency medical personnel.
The crash was reported just after 4 p.m., Nov. 7, 2025, in the 6000 block of Radio Station Road. Dispatch information indicated one bus ran into the back of the other as they departed the school.
Medics evaluated all students and staff on scene. One student, a 15-year-old girl with chest pain, was taken to the UM Charles Regional Medical Center. No other significant injuries were reported.
Command reduced the call after the initial assessment and released several units.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
