PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Prince Frederick man is being held without bond after deputies say he violated an active protective order while carrying a loaded handgun.
Chicago Alexander Garner, 31, of Prince Frederick, was arrested March 1, 2026, after deputies responded to an apartment on Alton Court for a reported violation of a protective order, according to court documents.
Deputies arrived at approximately 1:38 p.m. and located Garner sitting on the stairs next to the door of an apartment unit. Court records state Garner was subject to an interim protective order issued on Feb. 27, 2026, which prohibited him from being at the residence, entering the home, or contacting the protected individual. The order was valid through March 2, 2026.
Investigators determined Garner was in violation of the order by being present in the common area immediately outside the apartment and by contacting the protected party while deputies were on scene.
Garner was taken into custody. During a search incident to arrest, deputies located a Sig Sauer P229 .40 caliber handgun in his right jacket pocket. The firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber. No magazine was inserted in the handgun, and no additional magazine was found on his person, court documents state.
Authorities conducted a records check on the handgun, which did not return as registered. Investigators also determined Garner did not possess a Maryland Handgun Permit and was prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions. Court documents list previous convictions including fourth-degree burglary in 2015 and conspiracy to commit robbery in 2021.
Garner was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with:
- Loaded Handgun on Person
- Handgun on Person
- Firearm Possession by a Prohibited Person
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
- Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
- Violation of a Protective Order
Court records show he was initially held without bond on March 2, 2026. A bail review hearing was held March 3, 2026, in Calvert District Court before Judge Robyn Riddle, and he was ordered held without bond.
A hearing is set for April 1, 2026 in Calvert District Court.

Shocking. Another convicted felon carrying a handgun. Isn’t it amazing with all the gun regulations that law abiding citizens have to honor, still the criminals get all the guns they want.
