NANJEMOY, Md — Fire crews responded to 3210 Hancock Run Road just after 12:38 a.m. when a homeowner reported flames coming from the chimney of a single‑family home. Two occupants and several animals evacuated safely.

Units arrived to find embers venting from the chimney with no extension into the structure. A cracked chimney allowed smoke into the attic, but firefighters confirmed the fire remained contained.

Crews advised the homeowner not to use the chimney or wood‑burning stove. The Red Cross was requested to assist, as the stove was the home’s only heating source.

The incident was cleared at this morning at 1:06 a.m.
