Darius-Jackson

LAUREL, Md. – A man accused of fatally shooting a Laurel resident in front of his home Tuesday night is now in custody. Prince George’s County Police have charged 31-year-old Darius Seville Jackson of Oxon Hill with the murder of 58-year-old Jerome Carlin Stocks.

The incident occurred on November 26, 2024, at approximately 9:05 PM on Silverbirch Lane, an unincorporated section of Laurel. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found Stocks lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:13 PM.

The preliminary investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Jackson and a member of Stocks’ family. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Jackson and the victim’s family were acquainted.

Detectives worked swiftly, using a combination of surveillance footage, cellular data, and witness testimony to identify Jackson as the suspect. Earlier that evening, Jackson reportedly damaged the vehicle of Stocks’ family member and sent threatening messages before returning to the area and committing the fatal shooting. Witnesses described seeing a gray 2021 Nissan Kick SUV, registered to Jackson, fleeing the scene moments after the gunfire. Forensic evidence, including 9mm shell casings and bullet fragments recovered from the scene, further corroborated the findings.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Jackson’s arrest, and the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit apprehended him the following day. He faces charges of first- and second-degree murder, assault, and several firearm-related offenses. Jackson is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
