LA PLATA, Md. — A Gloucester, Virginia man is being held without bond after authorities say he sent explicit material to a minor and traveled to Charles County intending to meet the teen.

Stephan Wayne Klink, 42, of Gloucester, Virginia, was charged with display of obscene material to a minor and sexual solicitation of a minor following an investigation by the La Plata Police Department, according to court documents.

On Feb. 25, 2026, officers were contacted by a parent who reported suspicious online activity involving his 14-year-old son and the teen’s friend. The parent told investigators an online dating account had been created to identify potential child predators and later discovered that Klink had communicated with a 15-year-old boy and arranged to meet at Tilghman Lake in La Plata.

Investigators reviewed screenshots of the conversations, which were provided to law enforcement. Court documents state the messages included explicit sexual content and requests for sexual acts. Authorities allege Klink also sent explicit photographs and a video during the exchanges.

On Feb. 27, 2026, Klink drove from Gloucester, Virginia to Tilghman Lake in La Plata, where officers were waiting. He was taken into custody without incident.

After being advised of his rights, Klink admitted to communicating with the teen, sending the explicit material and traveling to meet him, according to charging documents.

Klink was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and charged with display of obscene material to a minor and sexual solicitation of a minor. He was initially ordered held without bond on Feb. 28, 2026. A bail review hearing was held March 2, 2026 before Judge Patrick J. Devine in Charles District Court, where he was ordered held without bond.

A hearing is set for April 1, 2026 in Charles District Court.
