Patuxent High Soccer Coach Indicted In Multi-Year Child Sex Abuse Case In Lusby
Edwin Augusto Maldonado

LUSBY, Md. — A Lusby man who serves as the head coach of the Patuxent High School boys varsity soccer team has been indicted on multiple felony charges in an alleged multi-year case involving the sexual abuse of a minor, according to court records.

Edwin Augusto Maldonado, 46, was indicted April 20, 2026, by a Calvert County grand jury on six counts, including four counts of sex abuse of a minor, sexual solicitation of a minor, and altering physical evidence.

According to the Calvert County Public Schools athletics website, Maldonado is the head coach of the Patuxent High School boys varsity soccer team. Court records do not indicate the allegations are connected to his role with the school or any school-related activities.

Court records show the charges stem from an investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services that began in early March 2026. Maldonado was arrested March 16 and has been held without bond since that time.

Charging documents indicate the alleged incidents began in October 2024 and continued through early March 2026.

Investigators reported the case includes interviews and electronic communications, including text messages, which they allege show Maldonado engaged in inappropriate conduct with the minor. Authorities also allege evidence was later altered or destroyed.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Maldonado’s Lusby residence as part of the investigation, where physical evidence was recovered.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for June 1, 2026, followed by a plea hearing on August 3, 2026, before Judge Mark S. Chandlee in Calvert County Circuit Court. A jury trial is scheduled to begin October 6, 2026, and is expected to continue through October 8, 2026. Court records show a criminal summons was issued April 21, 2026, following the indictment.
