NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. — Drivers leaving Naval Air Station Patuxent River will need to adjust their morning routines starting Friday, as base officials announced a change to outbound traffic operations at Gate 2.

Effective July 25, Gate 2’s outbound lane will close from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily, with no end date specified. The change is being implemented “in the interest of sentry safety,” according to base officials.

During the morning rush, cones will redirect outbound traffic from Gate 2 to Mandt Road, guiding vehicles toward Gate 1, which remains open for outbound traffic around the clock.

To ease the shift, Gate 3 will temporarily accommodate outbound traffic between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. each day.

Motorists commuting off-base are encouraged to plan for potential delays and consider alternate routes. Base officials have not indicated when Gate 2 outbound operations will resume normal hours.
