Cepeda Juwan Hicks

Leonardtown, MD — A Lexington Park man pled guilty Jan. 7 in St. Maryโ€™s County Circuit Court in connection with an armed robbery. Cepeda Hicks, 21, is next due to appear in Calvert County Circuit Court Jan. 8 on a violation of probation hearing.

According to a plea agreement between the state and defense, Hicks will be sentenced in St. Maryโ€™s to eight years but all but three years will be suspended and that sentence will be concurrent with whatever the sentence is in Calvert County.

Hicks was convicted in Calvert County in 2013 of conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 10 years, but eight-and-a-half years of that was suspended. He thus has that suspended term hanging over him for the violation of probation charge which was triggered by the St. Maryโ€™s County offense last year.

Hicks and co-defendant Tyriel Gantt, were charged in connection with an incident in December of 2014 in which the two allegedly demanded at knife point money from a male victim. The victim, according to police reports, refused to turn over the money and had his jacket slashed by the knife. Gantt was sentenced in November to six years in jail after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

During the Jan. 7 hearing, Hicks pled guilty to second degree assault and theft of $1,000 to under $10,000. Circuit Court Judge David Densford ordered a pre-sentence investigation before actually imposing the sentence. By then the judge will know the outcome of the Calvert County case.

Hicks was represented at the Jan. 7 hearing by public defender Sean Moran. The prosecutionโ€™s case was handled by Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Jaymi Sterling.
